Incentive Programs & OTTB Competitions

While Thoroughbreds are successfully besting other breeds in open competition in just about every discipline in existence, incentive programs and Thoroughbred-only competitions offer additional venues for the OTTB. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but should help you get started!

Thoroughbred Makeover: Open to horses in their first year of retraining after racing, the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America, offers over $100,000 in prize money and ten disciplines of competition. The Thoroughbred Makeover is an ideal competition for which to structure the first year of a horse’s second career. Learn more on our website!

The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program:  A program of The Jockey Club, the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) was conceived to encourage the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon completion of their careers in racing or breeding. T.I.P. offers incentives for competition horses, recreational horses, young riders and Thoroughbreds in a non-competitive second career as well as a Championship horse show. Learn more at the T.I.P. website.

TAKE2 Thoroughbred League: The TAKE2 Thoroughbred League is a member-based initiative founded by the TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program. Created to promote second careers for retired Thoroughbred racehorses, TAKE2 rewards members who compete in affiliated USEF Thoroughbred Hunter and Jumper Divisions with awards, prize money and eligibility for the $20,000 TAKE2 Hunter and Jumper Finals. Learn more at the TAKE2 website.

Track to Tack Incentive Program: Open to all racehorses of all breeds who made a minimum of one start on the track, the Track to Tack Incentive Program offers sidepot prize money and tracks points for additional standings at partnering barrel races. Learn more and find eligible races at the Track to Tack Facebook page.
