Visiting Lexington

The Bluegrass is Ready to Welcome You!

Known for fast horses and smooth bourbon, Lexington is excited to once again welcome attendees of the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover to the Bluegrass! As you plan your trip to Lexington, be sure to make time in your schedule to experience all Central Kentucky has to offer.

If you want to get a sense of what your horse’s life was like before he was “Makeover material,” Horse Country Tours allows guests to tour many of the area’s Thoroughbred farms, veterinary clinics, feed mills and more. Keeneland Race Course, one of the sport’s most beautiful racing venues, is open to the public for morning workouts, allowing visitors to get a railbird’s view of the horses as they’re being exercised, explore their grounds and stable area and grab breakfast at the track kitchen. You’ll be hard-pressed not to see at least a few recognizable faces from the racing world!

Kentucky is also home to some of the most popular brands of Bourbon in the world, including Woodford Reserve, Maker’s Mark and Buffalo Trace. If beer is more your style, check out some of the local breweries on the Brewgrass Trail. Zagat has rated greater Lexington as one of the top 30 food cities in the nation, so after your tours and tastings, enjoy a meal at one of the many locally-owned restaurants in downtown Lexington, or in nearby Georgetown, Versailles, Midway or Paris.

Be sure to check out VisitLEX, the city’s tourism website that’s full of useful trip-planning resources. In the coming months we'll be posting information here about special tour opportunities and experiences exclusively for RRP members, so be sure to check back as you begin to plan your journey to the Bluegrass!
