Sanquist (“Q”) is a 16.2h 2022 gelding. Track trained with no starts, he retired from his first career in 8/2024. His pedigree boasts Tapit, Storm Cat, and A.P. Indy, making him not only talented under saddle, but also well-bred for sport!
Since his track days, he’s been let down and thoughtfully produced showing great promise in many aspects, including hunters. At his first show he earned Champion in the 2’ Baby Greens! Q is schooling comfortably up to 2’9” and has scope to spare. He is brave to the fences, no spook, and always jumps. He will happily hack out on trails, paper chases, and cross country.
On the flat, Q will soften into a frame, leg yield, and pick up both leads. Plus, he has already offered some lead changes, with further training they should be easy to finish.
Q has a sweet and kind puppy-dog personality with a good brain. He is great for the vet and farrier and is easy to handle day in-day out. Currently on 24/7 turnout and he seems to prefer it too. Great in a herd, gets along well with others.
No vices, wears front shoes only, and no maintenance other than Ulcer prevention medication. He was scoped in 4/2025 and was treated with the full 28-day course of Omeprazole for his ulcers.
He is mostly a quiet, push ride, but has a 3-year-old spunky side too. He can on occasion throw a playful crow hop, so he is not currently suitable for a beginner or a timid rider. He thrives best in consistent work rather than sitting idle.
His connections opted to retire him from the track when a radiograph revealed an OCD in his right front ankle; the vet advised not to continue racing, and that it would not limit a show career. Q has remained sound with no issues during my ownership.
Q is priced in the mid-to-upper four figures. Negotiable.
