Competitor Newsletter 2022: Vol 2

June 01, 2022
Greetings 2022 Makeover Trainers!

Hopefully you all are enjoying the early stages of the retraining process and have fun outings planned with your Makeover horses as the weather warms up!

The RRP staff is in the middle of a busy spring season. We are back in the office after getting to meet several of you at Equine Affair and are looking forward to hopefully meeting more 2022 Makeover trainers at the Kentucky Three-Day Event!

Before we get back on the road, we wanted to touch base with you all. We will be sending out these Trainer Newsletters on a regular basis this year to keep everyone informed on upcoming events, webinars, and deadlines. Want to stay in the loop? Make sure you do NOT unsubscribe from RRP emails, this will prevent you from receiving future Trainer communications. If you would like for your coach, spouse, or parent to receive these emails as well, they can sign up here.

Webinars

The RRP has planned several webinars that you won’t want to miss: we have chosen key subjects for Makeover trainers to help you all have a successful journey with your retired racehorses. The webinars are accessible via Zoom and Facebook, but will be recorded and posted on Youtube for those that cannot attend live. Mark your calendars for these upcoming sessions:

  • April 14 at 7 PM: Find the Right Feed for Your Horse with KER’s Dr. Katie Young (RRP page or Zoom, PW 388373)
  • May 5 at 7 PM: Update on Gastric Ulcer Disease in Horses with Dr. Amy Polkes of Hudson Valley Equine Internal Medicine (RRP page or Zoom, PW 069575)
  • May 11 at 7 PM: T.I.P. Championships & Thoroughbred Makeover Q&A (RRP page or Zoom, PW 849239)
  • June 2 at 7 PM: OTTB Research with T.I.P. & RRP (RRP page or Zoom, PW 597849)
  • July 13 at 7 PM: Marketing Your Thoroughbred Sales Horse (RRP page or Zoom, PW 565065)
  • August 18 at 7 PM: Preparing For the Arrival Exam (Trainer group or Zoom, PW 227299)
Horse Registration

If you have your Makeover horse, don’t wait until the last minute to get them registered! Not only will you make our administrative assistant very happy, but you will complete your Trainer Profile on the entries list. It is also a great way to begin marketing your Makeover horse if you plan on selling them after the event, and it makes it possible for racing connections to find out if their previous horses will be competing in the Makeover. The green horse head logo indicates to potential buyers that your horse may be for sale as they peruse the entries list.

You can complete your horse’s registration form by logging into the Trainer Portal and selecting “Add a Thoroughbred” from the dropdown menu of the actions column next to your entry. Once you have submitted your entry form, be patient. Sallie, our administrative assistant, manually reviews each and every horse registration. If your horse is eligible, you will NOT be notified, but the registration will be accepted and your horse’s name will appear on the entries list. We will only contact you if there is a problem with your registration. Once your Horse Registration is submitted, it will show up in the Manage My Entries grid. From here you can check on the status of your registration, report your horse as sold or withdrawn, and add photos to your horse’s profile.

Trainers are to register their horses as soon as they are acquired and must have a horse registered no later than July 29, 2022. If you do not register a horse by July 29th, you will be assumed a scratch and your entry will be withdrawn. You can swap horses out any time before the horse registration deadline, so register a horse now even if you have not decided which of your Makeover eligible horses you will be taking to the event.

#FieldTripFridays

Getting your Makeover horse off property to experience new environments is such an important part of preparing them for the Makeover. Don’t forget to post about your adventures and hashtag them with #FieldTripFriday in the RRP Thoroughbred Makeover Forum group on Facebook and other platforms! Show your fellow Makeover trainers the fun ways you are setting your horse up for success and we just might share your post on our social pages!

Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event

  • Come tailgate with us on Saturday, April 30th all day at S278 (adjacent to Steeplechase Infield Tower)! We will have our Spin To Win prize wheel and a signature cocktail — take a photo with your branded drink cup in the coolest place in the Park and tag #CheersToTheTB on social media; our favorite photo will win $75 in RRP store credit!
Deadline Reminders

Below is a list of deadlines throughout the year. New for 2022: All paperwork deadlines close at 5pm EST on their due date, which will always fall on a business day. We will not run you down for paperwork and missing paperwork jeopardizes your Makeover entry. If we choose to accept late paperwork, we have the right to assess a $75 late fee.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email secretary@tbmakeover.org! Email is the best way to reach us and we are in the office Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm.

All the best,

Rayna Erasmus
